Shylonda Miller
CHW, CHWI

Hi, I’m Shylonda—most people call me Shy. I’m a Community Health Worker (CHW) Instructor and a dedicated advocate for mental health and community wellness. I’ve proudly served in this field for over three years and recently earned my Master of Social Work (MSW), building upon my foundation as a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW).

Before entering the field of social work, I spent six years working as both a mental health technician and an emergency room technician. That front-line experience shaped my understanding of crisis care and ignited my passion for becoming a social worker. It was during those years, when I saw individuals in some of their most vulnerable moments, that I recognized the deep need for compassionate, systems-level advocacy.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked extensively in psychiatric care, particularly supporting inpatient psychiatric placements and navigating the involuntary warrant process. These responsibilities deepened my knowledge of behavioral health systems and justice-involved care.

In recent years, my focus has shifted toward addressing the broader social determinants of health, factors like housing, food security, access to care, and community resources. As a CHW instructor, I now help train and empower future frontline workers to meet community needs with empathy, knowledge, and culturally competent care.

I’m passionate about building healthier communities from the ground up and creating spaces where every individual—regardless of their background—can access the support and services they deserve.
